Food grade sodium alginate

Sodium alginate is also called algin, or alginic salt, which is made from kelp. It’s a kind of natural polysaccharides carbohydrate, which is applied as thickener, emulsifier, stabilizer, binding agent, and sizing agent in food, pharm, textile, paper-making, and daily chemical industry. It has been developed into new applications in food industry since 1980s. It’s not only a safe food additive but also the material of functional food, or health food. Since it’s a natural fibre, it is helpful reducing the intake of glucolipid and bile salts, and limiting serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood glucose to prevent hypertension, diabetes, and obesity.

 Sodium alginate is the sodium salt of alginic acid, which is a linear copolymer with homopolymeric blocks of (1-4)-linked α-L- mannuronate(M), and β-D- guluronate (G) residues, respectively, covalently linked together in different sequences or blocks.
